Sheila’s Story

Sheila’s Story*

I have a chronic health condition and was in the early stages of recovery when my husband was made redundant earlier this year.

I had stopped working some months before due to my health but had been able to concentrate on getting better as my husband earned a decent enough wage to support both of us; now we had to claim Universal Credit and attend the Job Centre, but every cloud has a silver lining as it was through the Job Centre that I was introduced to Community Renewal and their Next Step programme.

I believe that working with Oliver and Sinead at Community Renewal has played a very important role in my recovery. Six months ago the thought of returning to the workplace terrified me, but I am now looking forward to starting work as a volunteer with Community Renewal and I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn the skills I need to enter the workplace and to help others do the same.

Community Renewal has been such a lifeline for me, giving me the support, information and access to the resources I need to move my life forward. I even got my daughter involved, and am happy to report that she is now well on the way to fulfilling her dream of working in animal rescue.”
