Paul came to us as he was looking to re-enter the construction industry after a period away.
Here he shares how Next Step Edinburgh supported him back into employment in the sector
“I have been involved in the construction industry since I left school but unfortunately in recent years had suffered from mental health problems. I decided to leave construction and continue working with another member of my family. This was not sustainable in the long-term and I needed help to obtain my CSCS card. I decided to go back and try labouring on-site and rebuild my confidence from there.
At the beginning of this journey, I contacted Skills Development Scotland who put me through to someone working for Community Renewal. With the help and guidance of my caseworker – Ross Young – I was placed on a course to obtain my SCQF Level 5 award and then pass the CITB health, safety and environment test.
The help and understanding from Ross was invaluable and the continued conversations about my work and wellbeing have provided a tremendous support. I have managed to achieve a lot in short period of time, when for a long time the road ahead of me seemed impossible.
I would completely recommend the services and support of Community Renewal and in particular Ross who helped me a great deal.”
